Isabelle again

Sauve qui peut: Three lives of three women, connected in some bizarre fashion. This movie disturbs me, when I think of what nightmarish experiences people endure to get their desires and wishes see daylight. The world is as ghastly as the people inhabiting it. People are still driven by primal sexual urges and women survive by making business out of these cravings. There is this very fuzzy delineation between words like love, relationships and physical intimacy. Goddard manages to make brilliant mockery of whatever he takes fancy to. The strength of a woman to stand by whatever she believes in is also incredibly demonstrated. Isabelle Rivière (Isabelle Huppert) sells herself everyday in a most unemotional non personal manner and manages to be happy as well.

Also in a far fetched way, I feel all our lives are connected by some invisible gossamer thread of commonality and fate. We are all bonded by our similar genome and maybe by our sole existence.

  • A word of caution, if you will permit me! Lesson learnt from long personal experience with the French - don't watch too many French movies at a stretch! - real life contains far more joy and grandeur and laughter than what we see there, because people [especially the intellectual French!] tend to highlight sad things more than happy things in movies!

Ergo, it is up to you young creative people to try and make as many happy-funny movies as possible, that speak about wonderful people and wonderful gestures that the world is just brimming over with!!
